The idea was to remove the background. Here's one with a white background...

White background

Here's one with a transparent background

Transparent background

By using the image with no background, the transparent part of the image can be selected, then inverted then expanded.

The selection is then stroked on another new layer and filled with white, which gives this effect...

Here's how it was done...

A variety of Photoshop tools were used to make the selection; quick select, edge define, magnetic lasso, polygonal lasso, eraser etc.

The selection (the people) were then pasted into new layer. A new white background layer was inserted under the new image. The white shows through the transparent part of the image. Both layers were selected then saved as a png file.

For the transparent only image, just the top layer was selected and that saved as a new png file.
