"We have to gain the Victory
That is our task."
The Prime Minister

The quote is from Winston Churchill's speech given in the House of Commons on 20th August, 1940. This is the same speech in which the immortal line "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. All hearts go out to the fighter pilots, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day." appears.

I have another unused copy of this postard and the quote on the back is...

"T.N.T. -
Today and Tomorrow"
Minister of Production

On February 4th, 1942 Max Beaverbrook was appointed Britain's Minister of Production. Unfortunately, I cannot find a reference to this quote.

Cabot Tower. Erected to commemorate Sebastian
Cabot, a native of Bristol, who sailed from Bristol in
1497 to discover the tract of country now called
Newfoundland, a year before Columbus came in sight of the
continent of America. A good view of the city and
surroundings is to be obtained fromthis tower.

Cabot Tower stands on Brandon Hill. It was built in 1897 in memory of John Cabot, 400 years after he set sail in the Matthew from Bristol and landed in what was later to become Canada. The architect was William Venn Gough. The foundation stone of the tower was laid by the Marquess of Dufferin & Ava on the 24th June, 1897, And the completed tower was opened by the same nobleman on the 6th September, 1898. The 105 ft tall tower consists of a spiral staircase leading to two viewing platforms which overlook the city.
