Bristol UK Postcards - Wartime Quotes Series (1)
I know nothing about these postcards except they all have various quotes, most from Winston Churchill that date them to no earlier than 1942. The series simply have a serial number the text...
Printed in Gt. Britain
The serial numbers are a little odd in that the numbers seem very high and do not seem to follow any particular sequence.
"Let us all strive without failing in faith or in duty." - The quote is from Winston Churchill's speech that was broadcast by the BBC on 14th July 1940. The speech calls to arms men from every country to fight Nazism and runs "This is no war of chieftains or of princes, of dynasties or national ambition; it is a war of peoples and of causes. There are vast numbers, not only in this island but in every land, who will render faithful service in this war but whose names will never be known, whose deeds will never be recorded. This is a war of the Unknown Warriors; but let all strive without failing in faith or in duty, and the dark curse of Hitler will be lifted from our age."
"This is a time for everyone to stand to-gether and hold firm." - The quote is from Winston Churchill's Broadcast to the Nation on 11th September 1940.
"We have to gain the Victory. That is our task." - The quote is from Winston Churchill's speech given in the House of Commons on 20th August, 1940. This is the same speech in which the immortal line "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. All hearts go out to the fighter pilots, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day." appears.
"We shall continue steadfast in faith and duty till our task is done" - The quote is from Winston Churchill's speech given to allied delegates at St. James's Palace on June 12th, 1941. The speech runs "Our air power will continue to teach the German homeland that war is not all loot and triumph. We shall aid and stir the people of every conquered country to resistance and revolt. We shall break up and derange every effort which Hitler makes to systematize and consolidate his subjugations. He will find no peace, no rest, no halting place, no parley. And if, driven to desperate hazards, he attempts invasion of the British Isles, as well he may, we shall not flinch from the supreme trial. With the help of God, of which we must all feel daily conscious, we shall continue steadfast in faith and duty till our task is done."
"We shall never stop, never weary, and never give in" - is from Winston Churchill's "Dieu Protege La France" speech which was broadcast on October 21st, 1940.
"T.N.T. - Today and Tomorrow." - On February 4th, 1942 Max Beaverbrook was appointed Britain's Minister of Production. Unfortunately, I cannot find a reference to this quote.

Blaise Castle, which isn't a real castle at all, but a Gothic-style structure, was built in 1766 by Thomas Farr and designed by Robert Mylne. Not quite a folly, the castle was built as a summer house complete with kitchen, drawing room and stained glass windows. In 1771, Farr became Master of the Society of Merchant Venturers and in 1775 became Mayor of Bristol.
