St. Anthony Hospital is conducted by the Poor Sisters of St. Francis Seraph of Perpetual Adoration, Provincial Motherhouse, Mishawaka, Indiana

St. Anthony Hospital had a long and distinguished history. Herman Hulman Sr. bought a vacant, two-story building at Second and Mulberry streets, and the first St. Anthony Hospital opened on September 11th, 1882. As it outgrew those quarters, his wife Antonia Riefenstahl Hulman hoped to expand the facility but she died on April 17th, 1883. Herman paid $30,000 for the vacant St. Agnes Hall, a female seminary, which was located at Sixth Street and College Avenue, and another $10,000 to convert it to a hospital. It opened on January 1st, 1884.

A new wing was added in 1901 and the north wing was added in 1908 for which Herman paid $80,000 there were other major additions and alterations until 1913. Herman Hulman Sr. died on July 4th, 1913, but left $25,000 in his will for the maintenance of the hospital.

More additions and alterations followed until the Hospital Corporation of America bought the buildings from the Poor Sisters of St. Francis Seraph of Perpetual Adoration in 1975. The facility was closed in 1979 following the opening of Terre Haute Regional Hospital. The buildings were demolished in 1982 and the site, now named Anthony Square, is occupied by a living complex for the elderly.
