Located at Fourteenth Street and Wabash Avenue this park was originally called City Park. It became known as Steeg Park in honour of Henry C. Steeg, who was elected mayor in 1898. The park's name changed again, this time in honour of Curtis Gilbert who was postmaster at Fort Harrison, 1817-1818. Gilbert went on to become the first clerk of Vigo County and the park was made on the location of his original house.
