Daniel B. Luten was instructor of civil engineering at Perdue University between 1895 and 1900 when he left teaching to design bridges. In 1902 he formed the National Bridge Company, which patented more than 30 bridge designs and build over 700.

This bridge is about 6 blocks from us. My dad helped build it before I was born. My aunt's sister was killed at the R.R. crossing where I have the X marked [lower right hand corner].

This photograph was taken from the south side of the river in 1930 when the Wabash was in flood. Behind the bridges can be seen the train depot on Canal Street and in the distance can be seen the court house.
