Bristol Tap - we unfortunately missed this
As far as I know there is only one place named Bristol in Illinois, but at one time there appears to have been several. The remaining one is an unincorporated community known as Bristol Township in Kendall County. This Bristol was originally referred to as Bristol Station until 1957, when it merged with Yorkville to form a single city. Due to the unification, Bristol Station is now referred to as simply Bristol. With a population of around 32,000, it has a small post office, bar, and train station located near the center of town. In June 2008, Raging Waves, Illinois' largest water park, was built just north of of the township.
By 1833, Earl Adams had built a small cabin on what was later known as Courthouse Hill on the south side of Yorkville. In 1834, Lyman and Burr Bristol laid out the village of Bristol on the north side of the river. When the county of Kendall was formed in 1841, Yorkville was chosen as the county seat.
Bristol Township was named after the Bristol family. Although pioneer miller John Schneider was really the first settler in the township, the Bristols were better known. Lyman Bristol donated the site of the village of Bristol, now the north side of the city of Yorkville. Today's village of Bristol was first known as Bristol Station, and was a stop on the railroad that passed Yorkville and the old village of Bristol to the north. Bristol is the county's smallest township, losing substantial acreage to both Kendall and Oswego townships because of the meander of the Fox River. The township was also known as one of the county's wettest, with swamps galore.
To the southwest of Kendall County is Marshall County. There was a Bristol there from 1836 until 1840. It was a mile north of Lacon, and created by James Orr on May 6, 1836. One lot in Bristol was sold in June 1838 for $18. The town was vacated February 3, 1840, by legislative enactment.
