Bristols in Wisconsin, USA

There are several places in southeast Wisconsin named Bristol. Four are Bristol, Bristol Village, North Bristol, and East Bristol in Dane County The other is Bristol, a former town in Kenosha County.

The Bristol in Dane County encompasses the unincorporated communities of Bakers Corners, East Bristol, and North Bristol. East Bristol ws originally named Columbus Settlement.

The Bristol Village area's first settler was Rollin Tuttle, who arrived in April 1830. The village was named in 1836 for two brothers, George and Lester Bristol.

The Bristol in Kenosha County was once also known as West Bristol. The land where the village is located was owned by Alfred Giddings and was sold off and subdivided. The first settler was Rollin Tuttle, who arrived in April 1830. The Kenosha and Beloit Railroad came through the village in the late 1850s. The town had a population was 4,538 at the 2000 census—before a portion of the town was incorporated as the Village of Bristol. The remainder of the Town of Bristol was annexed by the Villages of Bristol and Pleasant Prairie effective July 4, 2010, and the town ceased to exist.

Also in Kenosha County is Bristol Corner. This was once known as Nixon Corner, and it is just up the road from the community named in 1837 for a pioneer resident, the Rev. Ira Bristol.

Bristol, Kenosha County is small town that we visited in July 2002 on the way to Patty's brother in Minnesota. We've yet to visit North Bristol in Dane County which is NE of Madison.
