Postcards of the Tornadoes and Floods of March 1913
More postcards from my collection...
I have to thank Roger Hopkins who emailed in March 2013, and who explained the relationship between Huntersville, Rossville, and Shawnee with Piqua which I didn't know when I originally wrote this page. Roger wrote that,
Shawnee is a section of Piqua. It originally was called Huntersville and then the name was changed to Shawnee when Huntersville became a part of Piqua. It is on the opposite side of the river from Piqua and was totally flooded by the flood. That is where the most loss of life was from when the houses were washed away. The one postcard you have of Rossville is also a part of Piqua. It is another section of Piqua that is further up the river but still across from Piqua. Many people still know the areas as Shawnee and Rossville, but they are all part of Piqua, Ohio now.
Rossville, Ohio - March 26th, 1913
This unused postcard has just the printed text "26", it also has an AZO stamp box which dates the postcard from between 1904 and 1918. This card does not actually say Ohio and there are plenty of other Rossvilles in other states but this is in the same style as postcards from nearby Piqua.
