Biography
Oscar Reutersvärd is known as the "the father of the impossible figure." He was born in Stockholm, Sweden on 29 November 1915. He created the Impossible Triangle in 1934, aged just 18, and in 1937, he drew the Impossible Stairs. Both were later developed independently and popularized by the British Lionel and Roger Penrose.
Reutersvärd produced more than 2,500 figures. In the late 1960s, several books were published featuring his work, and he attracted a following. He died on 2 February 2002, and today both mathematicians and psychologists use his drawings for studying visual perception.
